HUANG'S PARTY

(Sunday, January 25th, 2004)

For the first time, I took my Honda to a party. After picking up Anubhav a little late, we left for the Huang twin's house. Upon reaching there, my fear seemed to be coming true...fear that this would be another boring party and that I would be standing around drinking RC Cola. The first half hour or so, the party was a bit sporadic and was spread out like cell colonies in a culture. A couple people playing online games, a few playing Madden 2004, the other playing cards. Anubhav and I intermittently wove through each group trying to find our place in this uneventful time.

Very soon, the main door was just left open for people to enter at will. And oh boy, people entered at will all right. There were about forty people there, and that's when the party took a different turn. I began making fewer rounds towards the chips and drinks table and cracked more jokes and laughed at Hamza - who might I mention danced and did some crazy stunts last night. Thankfully, the Huangs did not have a karaoke system, or else we would all have been sitting there listening to his monotonous rap - which usually starts with, "Yo, yo, check this out yo," and ends with, "I be messin' with yo' mama." Well anyway, the party was spiced up by the first ever human pyramid at one of my parties. Of course, the idea essentially was mine, but thanks to Kit, we actually decided to do it. It first began with the bottom row of three people and two and then one. The high ceilings made it possible to further develop this idea and let everyone be a part of this. So, the bottom row became 5 people long, then 4, and topped with 2 girls. This was the turning point of the party, as people became more interested in joining whatever we were doing.

This "whatever we were doing" became dancing. And after watching Daler Mehndi's Tunak, everyone wanted to do bhangra. And bhangra's what they did. Anubhav burned a CD with Tunak and only a few courageous people (including me and surprisingly Felix) took part in this stupid dance. I say stupid because we were really making fools out of ourselves. But the great thing was nobody cared and they continued to dance throughout the looonnng song. Prior to this, Alex defaced Anubhav by showing us all his videos, one with his sexual/homosexual desires and the second one with Jon Li. Now that senior year has gotten interesting, we are planning to execute these movie ideas - what a great resumption of the movie making idea that we sparked during our freshman and sophomore years.

Back at the party, apart from the large crowd that had congregated in the living room, a few people still played Madden and the poker continued in the formal dining. The drinks were empty, the food was exhausted but the humor was enough to satiate. The music was loud and Nick added some special spice with his windmills and headstands. There was plenty of gaiety in the air as the Huangs took advantage of Jon Li - a must see when they get together. Anubhav was equally harassed with 1 dog-piling and frequent groping. The party seemed to die down and people began leaving, I left as well with Anubhav. I delivered him into Sully's custody and departed promptly to converge on some chicken biriyani that awaited my return.
